Marla was born and raised just south of Buffalo, NY, on the beaches of Lake Erie. After relocating to Cape Carteret, NC, with her family, she embraced a warmer beach lifestyle. She earned her Bachelor's degree from East Carolina University and her Master's from Southern Wesleyan University. With 13 years of experience teaching high school and middle school science, she later transitioned from education to raise her son. She worked at Bally for five years before joining the team at Griffin.

Married for almost 25 years to her husband, Kevin, Marla is the proud mother of their 13-year-old son, Ethan, who loves tennis. The family lives in Raleigh, NC, where they enjoy spending time together, traveling, taking beach breaks, and caring for their two dogs, Frankie and Punkin.
